My name is Mara Naomi O’Brien, and I am from southwest Wisconsin. My family of eleven lives on twelve acres and I have aunts, uncles, and cousins who live on the neighboring property. I am the seventh child in my family and I have two brothers and six sisters. I love swimming, horseback riding, hiking, skiing (when I can afford it!), hanging out with friends, and most of all, my family and my faith.

My parents have encouraged every child in my family to take a gap year and do some missionary work during that time. None of my siblings have ever regretted the time they spent in service to others during their gap year, so when I was looking for a program to do in my gap year, I heard about NET from friends and thought it would be a perfect fit. I am happy to be accepted as a NET missionary because I believe that not only will I have the opportunity to share my faith with others, but it will also deepen and strengthen my own faith.
